Relationship breakdown and immigration status
Resolution - The Review - Issue 225 – Jul/Aug 2023

Director Lauren Guy recently collaborated with Tim Barnden, immigration partner at Bates Wells, on a piece for The Review, Resolution’s magazine on the subject of relationship breakdown and immigration status.

The article explores the complex interplay of separation proceedings and potential changes to the immigration status of one or both of the parties. Lauren and Tim set out the issues that family lawyers and their clients need to be aware of in detail and how family and immigration lawyers need to work together to secure the best possible outcome for their mutual clients, to avoid the potential for devastating and long-reaching outcomes, particularly for children.

From impacts of relationship breakdown and curtailment issues and considerations, to the role of the EU Settlement Scheme, cases outside the Immigration Rules and settlements including children, there is much to consider.
