Richard is a family solicitor, collaborative lawyer and accredited mediator based in Brighton specialising in all areas of family law. He is particularly invested in helping people navigate separation and divorce with as little conflict and court involvement as possible.
Career history
Richard obtained a history degree at the University of Birmingham before attaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Law and completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law Guildford. He qualified in 2006 initially working for a central London firm before spending the latter part of his career in firms in Sussex, most recently as a director in a mid-Sussex niche family law firm.
Richard was ranked again as a Recommended Lawyer in The Legal 500, 2026 and ranked as a recommended lawyer in the Doyles Guide 2026.
Areas of work
Richard advises on the full range of issues that arise from separation and divorce — financial settlements, children arrangements, and the complex financial structures in high-value cases. He also advises at the start of relationships: pre and post-nuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements, and the particular complexities around co-parenting and family planning in the LGBT community.
Professional background
Richard is a Resolution Accredited Specialist in complex higher income financial remedies and complex lower income financial remedies. He is a collaborative lawyer and accredited hybrid mediator, and a trained Resolution Together specialist, delivering our one couple, one laywer service Consensus. He is the Membership Development and NCDR Officer for the West Sussex Resolution Committee, and will serve as co-chair from November 2026. He chairs the BrightPod collaborative group and is a member of the Sussex Family Solutions Pod. He previously was a member of the Resolution Cohabitation Committee.
